Soldier. Leeland Hathaway, a native of Clark County, Kentucky served under Confederate General John Hunt Morgan during the Civil War. He was held prisoner at Allegheny, Pennsylvania and at Fort McHenry, Baltimore, Maryland. He was captured while serving as a bodyguard to Jefferson Davis' wife, Varina Howell Davis.
